My Jewellery Box – Family Ring – Week 1

The first ring I came across was my family ring.  I asked and asked for this ring.  It was the in-thing at the time and everyone had one but me.  Because I’m hard on my jewellery, I wanted it to be flat, with no claws, and done in yellow gold.  I remember the day I opened it!  I was so happy! It was just what I had asked for.   I think I wore it for a year, that was over 20 years ago. At the time I had 2 dogs and a cat.  Their birthstones are also in the ring, they have since passed away.  This is the first time I have really taken a good look at this ring.  There are a lot of memories tied up in it,and I would love to incorporate this into something new, and keep the sentimental feelings and the story, to go in a newly designed piece.

Family Ring

The second ring I came across was my Opal and diamond ring.  This was the first ring I had ever been given by my husband.  Unfortunately, because I am hard on my jewellery, the shank of the ring is all bent out of shape and the opal is pretty rough (as you can see by the pictures).  I think that this would be another ring that I would love to have transformed.  I’m not sure if it would hurt my husbands feelings or not,  I’ll have to ask him.  I don’t wear it anymore and it’s a shame to have sitting in my jewellery box, hidden for no one to enjoy.

  1. The family ring is a beautiful piece and the story attached to it is very sweet.

    • Thank you for your comment. This is one of those rings that I am really struggling with. I am not sure if I should leave it and the memories as is, or try and make something new out of it. I am leaning more towards leaving it alone. I put it back on my finger and wore it to work today. We will see, I have so much more to go through.
