Panerai Radiomir Black Seal PAM 380

In the late 1930’s, there was a specific division of the Italian Royal Navy known as human torpedoes because, well…they were basically just that! They would pilot an underwater rig, nicknamed Maiale, which had a payload of a single torpedo. The name Maiale translates to pig, which turned into the term Black Seal. The men who belonged to this division wore the Panerai Radiomir for reliability and legibility when their lives very much depended on both factors. The Radiomir were built to the specifications which were necessary at the time. Water resistance was 100 meters, because realistically, nobody was going beyond 40 meters or so. The dial was clean and legible, as there was no need for an overly complicated dial with a myriad of unnecessary functions. What I like about purpose built watches is that they remain among the most desirable and collectible as the years pass by. This Radiomir Black Seal is very similar to the original model developed over 80 years ago maintaining its tool watch functionality and subsequently its desirability. The 45mm cushion shape, stainless steel case with wire lugs sits surprisingly low on the wrist making for a comfortable fit which is both elegant and sporty. This watch comes complete with box and papers.
